The reading club takes on Nightjar, Nightjar
We start at the ending, as always. Members and first-timers both welcome — and you may absolutely turn up having not finished it.
Upstairs, most evenings
Readings, the reading club, an open mic that has been running since 2013, and one Saturday a month where you can sell us your books. Most of it is free and none of it requires you to say anything.
We start at the ending, as always. Members and first-timers both welcome — and you may absolutely turn up having not finished it.
A reading, then a proper Q&A, then signing until we run out of pens. Thirty chairs and we will put out more. See the signed edition.
Open mic, eight minutes each, no sign-up sheet. Bring a poem or bring nothing and listen. Theo hosts and is kind about it.
Bring a box, leave with credit. We value on the spot — cash or trade, and trade is always worth more.
Four independent publishers, one table, and far too much to carry home. Wine included in the ticket, which is the point.
One month a year we abandon the novel. This time it is Small Hours, Long Winter, and Ruth has written notes twice as long as usual.
Nature writing that argues with itself. She is bringing slides, which she promises are not a lecture.
Thirty minutes of picture books on the rug, then everyone gets to knock the tower down. Under-sixes and whoever brought them.
First Saturday, upstairs, 7pm
Sixty of us, one book a month, and a standing rule that you may turn up having not finished it. Nobody has ever been made to feel bad about that, and nobody ever will be.
Membership includes the month's book — posted to you, or held behind the till if you'd rather collect. Ruth writes the discussion notes on a Sunday, badly, and they are better than most reviews you've paid to read.
$22 a month, cancel whenever. We'll email you before the first meeting you can make.
You're on the list — we'll see you upstairs.
In the real shop this would land in Ruth's inbox. Here it's a client-side demo: no data leaves your browser.
