Frond

Houseplants that survive the person who buys them.

Every Frond plant leaves our Portland greenhouse with an honest care level on the label — light, water, pet-safe — so you buy the one that fits your window, not the one that looks good in a photo.

Care guides

Most houseplants die of kindness

Overwatering kills more plants than neglect ever will. Four short guides, written by our greenhouse team, cover almost every problem you'll text us about.

  • 01

Read the light before you buy

Hold your hand a foot from the wall at noon. Sharp shadow: bright. Fuzzy: medium. No shadow: low — buy the ZZ.

  • 02

Water the soil, not the schedule

Finger in to the second knuckle. Dry? Water until it runs out the drain hole. Damp? Walk away.

  • 03

    Yellow leaf, brown leaf

Yellow and soft usually means too much water. Brown and crisp means too little, or dry air. Both are fixable.

  • 04

Repot in spring, not on arrival

Your plant just crossed the country. Let it sit in its nursery pot for a month before you move it.

People who used to kill plants

We ask everyone the same question ninety days after delivery: is it still alive? 94% say yes.

"I had killed four plants in two years. The care badge said my apartment was a low-light room, so I bought the ZZ instead of the monstera I wanted. It's been eleven months and it just pushed a new stem."
Marisol A.Chicago, IL · ZZ Plant
"The fiddle-leaf arrived with two bruised leaves after a heat delay. I sent one photo on a Sunday and had a replacement in the mail by Tuesday. They didn't even ask me to return the first one — it recovered."
Dev R.Austin, TX · Fiddle-Leaf Fig
"Two cats. The pet-safe filter is the only reason I trusted the order. Everything in the box was on the ASPCA list, and the packing slip said so — that's a level of care I don't get from a garden centre."
Thao L.Seattle, WA · Pet-Safe Shelf bundle
