NocturneAtelier
Shop candles

Small-batch home fragrance · Est. 2019

Scent for the hours after the lamps go out.

Nocturne Atelier pours slow-burning candles, tapers and diffusers in coconut-soy wax — built as scent pyramids, blended for low light, and hand-finished in Portland. Nothing here smells like a shop. It smells like a room at 10pm.

Coconut-soy wax
A single lit candle burning in a darkened room, its flame the only source of light.
No. 07 — Vesper Plum · Oud · Ember

The collection · Six of twelve

Each one reads top, heart, base — so you know what it becomes.

A candle changes as it burns. The top note is gone in twenty minutes; the base is what stays in the curtains. We print the whole pyramid, in order of how long it lasts.

The pour · SE Division St, Portland

We pour 120 jars at a time, then we wait eleven days.

Wax needs to rest. Poured too hot, a candle tunnels; scented too early, the top note burns off before it ever reaches you. So we cure every batch for eleven days before it gets a label — which is why we sometimes sell out, and why we won't rush it.

  1. 01

    Blend

Fragrance oils are weighed to 0.1 g and folded into coconut-soy at 76°C — cool enough to keep the citrus alive.

    76°C · ±0.1 g
  2. 02

    Pour

Hand-poured into hand-thrown stoneware with a single crackling wood wick. No two vessels glaze the same.

    120 jars · 1 wood wick
  3. 03

    Cure

Eleven days in the dark at 18°C. The scent binds to the wax; the throw doubles. Then, and only then, it ships.

A candle is furniture. Put it where it works.

Scent behaves differently in a hallway than it does over a dinner table. Here's where each of ours actually earns its place.

A lit taper candle in a ceramic holder on a windowsill at dusk, beside cut flowers and a rain-flecked window.

“The rule is simple: the smaller and colder the room, the darker the base note can go.”

Ines Aldarov — Head perfumer
Entryway

Cold air, quick pass-through. Needs a base heavy enough to hold at the door.

Kitchen table

Competing with dinner. Warm and edible — never floral, never sharp.

Long sittings. Dry, mineral, unsweet — it stays out of the way.

Humidity carries scent hard. Use a diffuser, not a flame.

What people say once the jar is empty.

★★★★★

“I've bought a lot of expensive candles that smell like nothing after five minutes. Vesper filled the whole upstairs and it was still there in the morning.”

Mara OkonjoVerified buyer · Vesper
★★★★★

“The note pyramid on the label sold me — it's the only shop that tells you what the thing will smell like in hour three, not just hour one.”

Daniel LindqvistVerified buyer · Ashfall
★★★★★

“Burned clean to the edge of the jar, no tunnelling, no soot on the wall. Third re-order. I've stopped looking elsewhere.”
