Vesper

No. 07 · Coconut-soy · Single wood wick

★★★★★ 4.9 · 412 reviews for this scent

Black plum and bergamot open it, iris and saffron hold the middle, and it lands on smoked oud and amber resin — the part still in the room at midnight. Our most-reordered pour, and the one on the hero shot.

The pyramid · No. 07

What it opens with is not what it leaves.

Notes are ordered by volatility — the lightest molecules evaporate first, the heaviest stay longest. Read this top to bottom and you're reading the candle's evening in order.

Top First 20 minutes

Black plum, bergamot peel

Sharp and cool on the strike. Gone before the wax pool reaches the edge.

Heart Hours one to three

Iris root, saffron

Powdery and dry. This is the shape of the candle for most of the burn.

Base Still there tomorrow

Smoked oud, amber resin

Heavy resin that binds to textiles. The reason people say the room still smelled of it in the morning.

Burn specification

The numbers, and how to hit them.

Every figure here is measured on the 9 oz jar in a still room at 20°C. Burn it differently and you'll get a different number — the rules underneath are how you get ours.

01

First burn: three hours, no less

Wax has a memory. Let the pool reach the full edge of the vessel on the first light or it will tunnel for the rest of its life.

02

Trim the wick to 3 mm every time

A wood wick that's too long smokes and soots. Snap the charred edge off cold, before you light it.

03

Four hours maximum per sitting

Past four hours the vessel gets hot enough to shorten the total burn. Put it out, let it set, light it again after dinner.

04

Stop at 10 mm of wax

Below a centimetre the stoneware takes the heat directly. Send the empty vessel back and the refill is $18.

Goes with · Same evening

If Vesper is right, these three are close.

Chosen by what shares its base, not its label. All three sit in the same half of the room.

Compline

No. 11 · 9 oz · 63 hr

Shares the amber-resin base but swaps plum for frankincense. Colder, more church than bedroom.

Best seller A single tall taper candle burning with a steady flame against a pitch-black background.

The drier answer to Vesper — birch tar and oakmoss instead of resin. Better at a desk than a bedside.
