“A pipe let go under the kitchen on a Saturday. An adjuster called me back that afternoon — an actual person, with a name and a phone number. Paid in six days.”
We're a mutual, so our members own us — there are no shareholders to keep happy when your claim lands on someone's desk. Last year we paid 98.4% of claims, most of them inside five days.
Every policy on this page fits on two pages. If a sentence needs a lawyer to decode it, we cut it.
Your building, your things, and the people who get hurt on your steps.

Your policy is written in the language you'd use to explain it to a friend. What's covered is a list. What isn't is also a list. No "notwithstanding the foregoing."
Making a claim is the entire point of having insurance. File one and your premium stays where it is at renewal — that's written into the policy, not a goodwill gesture.
The median Harbor claim closes in four days. Here's every step, and how long each one actually takes.
Call, or file it in the app with photos. No forms to print.
A named human, with a direct line. Not a queue, not a case number.
They walk the damage with you and put the figure in writing.

Figures cover 1 Jan – 31 Dec 2025 and are drawn from our annual statutory filing. Harbor Mutual is licensed in 41 states. AM Best ratings are opinions of financial strength, not a warranty of any specific policy.
“A pipe let go under the kitchen on a Saturday. An adjuster called me back that afternoon — an actual person, with a name and a phone number. Paid in six days.”
“I rear-ended someone in traffic. I braced for the renewal letter. My premium didn't move a dollar — turns out they meant it.”
“I read the whole policy on the train home. That has never once been true of an insurance document I've been handed.”
Harbor agents are salaried, not commissioned — so nobody has a reason to sell you cover you don't need. If a cheaper policy elsewhere suits you better, they'll say so.
Not for your first claim in any five-year window — that's a term in the policy, not a favour. A second claim inside that window may affect your renewal, and if it does, your agent will tell you the number before you file, so you can decide whether it's worth claiming at all.
Harbor has no shareholders. Members own the company, so any surplus goes back into lower premiums or is held as reserves to pay claims. In practice it means nobody inside the company is rewarded for finding a reason to deny you.
The median claim closed in four days last year. Straightforward auto and contents claims are often same-week. Large structural claims — a house fire, say — take longer because the rebuild estimate takes longer, but we'll advance you money for somewhere to stay within 24 hours.
Yes. Most insurers refund the unused part of your premium when you cancel, and we'll help you work out whether the timing costs you anything. If switching now would leave you worse off, we'll tell you to wait.
Flood and earthquake need separate policies in most states — we'll quote those too. Wear and tear, pest damage, and anything deliberate are excluded. All of it is on one page of your policy, under a heading that says "What we don't cover."
Three minutes, no credit check, and nothing is binding until you say so.
