The wood
Why beech, and why from forty miles away
Beech is dense, close-grained and boring — which is exactly what you want in a toy. It doesn't splinter along the grain the way pine does, it takes a radius without furring up, and it stays put when a two-year-old stands on it.

Grain is not a defectTone, figure and the occasional small knot vary between pieces. We sort out anything structural and let the rest through — it's a tree, not a moulding.
