Eight machines.
Eight people.

That is the whole idea. We never put a ninth reformer in this room, because the ninth is the one nobody gets watched on.

Every class is capped at eight, every instructor teaches from the floor rather than a machine at the front, and if your knee is doing something odd today we will change the springs before you have to ask.

Reformer Foundations

Beginner50 min

The first six weeks, taught as a course rather than a drop-in. You learn the springs, the footbar positions, and what neutral spine actually means before anyone asks you to hold it.

Flow 50

Moderate50 min

Our standard class and the one most people settle into. Continuous, spring-loaded, and built around the legs and the mid-back. You will be warm by minute six and know about it tomorrow.

Restore 40

Gentle40 min

Light springs, long holds, and the lights down two stops. Written for the day after a heavy week, for stiff hips, and for anyone coming back from a break who would rather not be brave about it.

(04) Who is teaching

Marta Kowalczyk

Founder · teaches Foundations

Opened the room in 2016 after eleven years in physiotherapy. Writes the Foundations course and still teaches four of them a week.

Priya Raman

Senior instructor

Comprehensive reformer and mat training, 2018. Took over the 06:15 slot in 2021 and has not missed one since.

Dan Whitmore

Instructor · rehab focus

Came in as a client with a rebuilt knee in 2019 and qualified two years later. Runs our post-injury and pre-surgery work.

Ana Beltrán

Instructor · teaches Restore

Trained in Madrid, moved here in 2022. Wrote Restore 40 for her own recovery and then for everyone else's.

All six instructors hold a comprehensive reformer qualification and current first-aid certification. Training bodies and certificate numbers are on the wall by the door.

(06) From the people on the machines

“I had done exactly none of this before and was braced for a room full of people who had. There were seven others and two of them were on their second class. Nobody looked at me once.”
Hannah DengTraining here 8 months
“Dan rebuilt my confidence after an ACL reconstruction more effectively than the twelve weeks of clinic that preceded it. He changed my springs before I knew I needed it changed.”
Tobias LindqvistTraining here 3 years
“No mirrors is the thing I tell everyone about. I stopped checking what I looked like doing it and started noticing what it actually felt like. That took about four classes.”

(07) Before your first class

I have never done pilates. Where do I start?

Foundations, or the intro offer if you would rather try before committing to six weeks. Foundations runs as a closed course — the same eight people, the same instructor, six weeks — which means nobody is joining halfway through at a different level. If you would rather just book a Flow 50 and see, that is fine too; tell the instructor at the door that it is your first and they will set your springs and stay near you.

What should I wear, and do I need socks?

Something you can move in that is not too loose — the instructor needs to see your hips and knees. Grip socks are required on the reformers for safety, and we keep them at the desk for $18 if you forget. Your first pair is included in the intro offer and in Foundations. No shoes past the door.

Can I do this pregnant?

Yes, with conditions. We teach through all three trimesters and after twelve weeks we will move you into Restore 40 or a private session rather than Flow 50. We ask for written clearance from your midwife or doctor after twenty weeks. Tell us before you book, not when you arrive, so we can put you with Marta or Ana — both have taught pre- and post-natal for years.

I have an injury. Is this suitable?

Usually, and often it is the point. Dan runs our post-injury work and Marta came from eleven years of physiotherapy. Email us what happened and when before you book. For anything in the last six weeks, or anything involving a surgeon, we will want their clearance first and will likely start you in a private session rather than a class.

How does cancelling work?

Free up to twelve hours before the class. Inside twelve hours the class comes off your pack or counts against your unlimited month, because at eight spots a late cancel usually means an empty machine. If you are ill, message us — we do not charge people for staying home sick, and we have never once argued about it.

Is there a waitlist, and does it actually move?

Yes to both. Around a third of waitlisted spots come free, mostly in the twelve-to-two-hour window before class. You will get a message the moment one opens and have fifteen minutes to take it. Unlimited members sit above pack holders on the 06:15 list, which is the only slot that reliably fills.

Do you have parking and how do I find you?

We are at 42 Scotchmer Street, a four-minute walk from the 11 tram at Scotchmer Street stop. Two-hour unrestricted street parking on Scotchmer and on Best Street, which is generally fine outside the 17:45 class. There is a bike rack in the laneway and room for four bikes inside if it is wet.

Can I freeze my unlimited membership?

Up to eight weeks a year, in blocks of one week or more, with three days' notice. No fee and no minimum term to earn it. Cancelling outright takes effect at the end of the month you are already paid for — there is no exit fee and no notice period beyond that.

Next Foundations course starts Monday 10 August

Eight machines. One of them is free at 09:30.

Three classes for $49, valid three weeks, grip socks included. Book the first one now and decide about the second after you have done it.
